Spartan Mowers has expanded its 2025 zero-turn lineup with two notable additions: the all-new Defender and the completely redesigned Shield and Shield-HD. Unveiled at the National Dealer Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, these models bring commercial-grade features to homeowners and property managers at accessible price points.

The Defender is a brand-new entry in the Spartan lineup, slotting in above the Shield as a step-up option for buyers who want more capability without jumping to the RZ series. Available in 48-inch, 54-inch, and 60-inch deck sizes with Kawasaki engines ranging from 23 to 24 horsepower, the Defender starts at just $6,379 MSRP. Standard features include folding ROPS, a full-beam LED light kit for early morning and late evening mowing, 22-inch Carlisle Turf Armor rear tires, a premium seat, and a top speed of eight miles per hour. A new hour meter tracks engine run time, and the deck features Spartan's improved Xtreme Turf Flow (XTF) design for better cut quality.

The Shield and Shield-HD have also been redesigned from the ground up for 2025. Entry-level configurations are available with 42-inch or 54-inch decks paired with a Kawasaki 23-horsepower engine. Both models feature Hydro-Gear transmissions, 20-inch Carlisle Turf Armor rear tires, a five-inch cut height range, and a top speed of seven miles per hour. The redesigned Shield maintains the affordability that made it popular while adding the refined cut quality of Spartan's updated deck system.

Both models benefit from the 2025 deck improvements that Spartan has applied across its entire lineup. Spindle locations and baffle positioning have been adjusted to improve cut discharge and clipping processing, while thicker seven-gauge steel baffles increase durability. The rotary height-of-cut system has been replaced with a magnetic pin adjustment that provides more consistent and secure deck placement.
