How to pick an Echo hedge trimmer
Can you reach the top standing on the ground?
If yes, a handheld like the HC-2210 is the simplest, best-balanced tool. If no, stop before you buy a ladder. A shaft trimmer (SHC-225, SHC-2620) puts the blade on a pole so you trim tall hedges with both feet down.
Double-sided or single-sided
Double-sided blades cut on both swings and are faster on a free-standing hedge. Single-sided models like the HCS-2810 and HCS-3810 are built for trimming along a fence, a wall, or a property line where you only ever cut one direction.
Articulating heads for shaping
The HCA-2620 and HCA-2620S have adjustable heads. If you're squaring off tops, working awkward angles, or shaping anything more sculptural than a straight wall of green, that adjustment is the whole tool.
Blade length is coverage per pass
Longer blades cover more hedge per pass and are heavier and less precise. The HC-2020 has a shorter blade for detail work in tight spaces; the 28.0 cc HC-2810 runs a 30-inch blade for bigger hedges.

How do I trim a hedge that's taller than I am?
A shaft hedge trimmer. The SHC-225 puts a 21.2 cc engine on a pole so you're standing flat on the ground instead of balancing on a ladder with a running blade. It's the single most common thing we talk people into.
