Mower & Small Engine Repair Service

2/4/2021
Equipment Solutions Outdoors small engine repair shop in Laddonia, MissouriIf your zero-turn mower, tractor, walk-behind, trimmer, or small-engine handheld is broken or due for service, we can probably help. Equipment Solutions Outdoors runs a working service shop out of our dealership in Laddonia, Missouri. We're an authorized Spartan and Echo dealer, but our techs work on most makes - if it has a small engine on it, we've probably got it on the bench at some point.

Here's what we do, what we don't, and what to expect when you bring something in.

What we service

Zero-turn mowers - Spartan (warranty + non-warranty), Cub Cadet, Bad Boy, Hustler, Toro, Scag, Gravely, John Deere ZTrak. Diagnostics, hydro service, deck spindle replacement, blade balancing, belt replacement, fuel system work, electrical, charging system.

Lawn tractors and riding mowers - John Deere, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Craftsman, Snapper, Simplicity, Massey Ferguson. Engine work, transmission diagnosis, steering and brake repair, deck and blade work.

Walk-behind and push mowers - we'll take them, but read the seasonality note below.

Echo handheld equipment (authorized warranty) - trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, edgers, PAS multi-tool. Plus most makes of small-engine handheld gear (Stihl, Husqvarna, RedMax, Shindaiwa, etc.) for non-warranty work.

Generators - Champion, Generac portable, Honda, DeWalt, Westinghouse. Carb work, charging system, no-start diagnosis, runtime issues.

Pressure washers and pumps - small-engine driven units.

Other small-engine equipment - call before you load it up. Most things with a Briggs, Kohler, Kawasaki, Honda, Vanguard, or Subaru small engine on it, we can work on.

What we don't service

We want you to know upfront so you don't drive out for a no-go:

- UTVs and side-by-sides - we phased out the UTV line, so we don't keep parts on hand or take new UTV service work
- Automotive engines (cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs) - we're small-engine, not automotive
- Diesel-powered equipment over 25hp - bigger ag/industrial diesel work is outside our wheelhouse
- Robotic mowers - the proprietary firmware and limited parts make it hard to service profitably

Service rates and what to expect

Our shop rate is $90/hr, billed in 15-minute increments after the first half-hour minimum. Diagnostic-only is a flat $45 if you decide not to proceed with the repair. Parts at list price (we don't mark up over MSRP for warranty work).

Typical jobs to give you a sense of pricing:

- Spring start-up service (oil + filter + fuel system check + blade sharpen + tire pressure + battery test) - $120-160 on a homeowner ZT, $180-220 on a commercial ZT
- Carb cleaning / rebuild on a single-cylinder small engine - $90-140 depending on access
- Ignition coil replacement - $80-110 including the part
- Deck spindle replacement (single) - $130-180 with OEM bearing kit
- Belt replacement (deck or drive) - $60-90 depending on the model
- Battery + charge system check - included free with any other service
- Pickup and delivery - $40 each way within 30 miles of Laddonia

The flat-rate quote system means we figure out what's wrong, give you a quote, and don't start the actual work until you say yes. No surprise bills.

Seasonality note - this matters

The shop is busiest March through July when everyone needs their mower fixed yesterday. If you can bring equipment in during the off-season (August-February), you'll get:

- Faster turnaround (1-3 days vs 1-3 weeks in peak season)
- Better rate on push mowers and walk-behinds (we'll do them in season but the priority goes to riders)
- More attention to detail since the techs aren't slammed

If your mower's been sitting all winter and you suspect it'll need carb work, getting it in February beats getting it in May.

Warranty service - bring proof

For Spartan and Echo warranty work, bring or send us:

- Proof of purchase (receipt or invoice)
- Serial number on the equipment (we'll verify it ourselves but it speeds things up)
- A clear description of the symptom and when it started

If you bought it new from us, we have your records on file and don't need the receipt. If you bought it from another authorized dealer or from a Lowes/box-store program, we can usually still do warranty work but the manufacturer reimbursement process is slower.

DIY before you bring it in

Some problems are simple enough that you can fix them yourself in 10-20 minutes and save the shop fee. We have walk-throughs on the diagnostic blog covering the most common issues:

- Tractor or mower just clicks when you turn the key
- Engine runs five minutes then dies
- Engine over-revs after a carb job
- Choosing the right blade lift for your deck

If you work through one of those and it doesn't fix the issue, you've ruled out the easy stuff and we'll know to dig deeper when it comes in.

Bringing equipment in

We're at 11217 Highway 54 in Laddonia, Missouri. About 25 minutes north of Mexico, an hour east of Columbia, an hour-and-a-half west of Hannibal. If you can drive a 1/2-ton pickup with a trailer in, we can take it from there.

Drop-off hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. We're closed Saturday and Sunday but if you call ahead we can usually arrange an after-hours drop with a phone tag.
